WRI Chief Executive Officer Don Collins has announced that Dr. Vijay Sethi has been promoted to senior vice president of Western Research Institute. Dr. Sethi had been the vice president of WRI’s Energy Production and Generation Business Unit since 1999 and has managed WRI’s $50+ million Cooperative Agreement Program with the U.S. Department of Energy since 2001.
In making the announcement Mr. Collins said, “Dr. Sethi has contributed to WRI’s growth and financial security by aggressively pursuing competitive R and D funding opportunities and assisting our University of Wyoming partners in development of the High Plains Gasification Advanced Technology Center.”
Dr. Sethi earned his doctorate in metallurgy and materials science from Case Western Reserve University in 1976. Before joining WRI in 1991, Dr. Sethi worked at Battelle Columbus Laboratories, Argonne National Laboratory and the Kentucky Energy Cabinet Laboratory.
Dr. Sethi’s expertise covers a broad range, including coal combustion and gasification, coal upgrading and efficient coal utilization, clean liquid fuel production from natural gas and other gas sources and biomass as a fuel and for clean fuel production.
He has over a hundred scientific and technical publications. He is a member of ASM International (formerly known as the American Society for Metals), National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers).
