WRI’s Pavement Preservation Work Attracts Industry
WRI Lead Engineer Michael Farrar was invited by leading pavement preservation industry associations to make a presentation on his Chip Seal Aging Survey at the ISSA/ISAET/AEMA annual meeting held in Aventura, Florida, February 25-27. Since 2012, Farrar and Senior Scientist William Grimes collected chip seal samples from roadways in four national parks, most notably Death Valley National Park. Chip seal is a pavement surface treatment in which layers of asphalt and fine aggregate are applied to extend pavement life. A feature article on the WRI research will be published in a special pavement preservation issue of Roads & Bridges.
